The Fountain National Academy says local embalmer Claude Alfonso Merriman recently completed over 100 contact hours of specialised embalming and reconstructive training as part of its education seminars for professional embalmers around the world.
Merriman attended the Embalmer Skills Seminar, Soft Tissue Injuries, Waxing and Airbrush Cosmetics Seminar, Advanced Port Mortem Reconstructive Surgery Seminar and Advanced II Post Mortem Reconstructive Surgery Seminar at the Academy’s training facility located in Springfield, Missouri, USA. In a press release, the Academy said each seminar focused on highly specialised embalming techniques and included special surgical techniques that advanced the skill level of participants in the area of general and specialised embalming and post-mortem reconstructive surgery techniques on victims of severe traumatic injuries.
“A professional embalmer is often called upon to prepare a deceased that has severe traumatic injuries and disfiguring facial injuries,” the Academy said, adding that reconstructive techniques are sometimes necessary to achieve an acceptable appearance to enable open casket viewing by family and friends.
