The Director of Public Prosecutions earlier yesterday recommended that the suspect in Sunday’s shooting to death of Permaul Rampersaud be charged with manslaughter.
Stabroek News was told that the charge was later instituted on Seelall Parbhu of Block Eight Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara who will make a court appearance soon.
Reports are that the two were among four persons travelling in a car when on the Lusignan public road, two rounds were discharged, striking Rampersaud who was sitting in the front passenger seat in the back and right arm. Investigations have revealed that Parbhu, a licensed firearm holder was clearing his gun when it went off. Parbhu was sitting behind Rampersaud, who was his cousin.
Meanwhile, police said that a post-mortem examination was yesterday performed on the body of Rampersaud by pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh who gave the cause of death as perforation of the aorta and lungs due to gunshot injury.
