Pensioners have been uplifting their pension books at the 156 pension distribution sites across the country and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security on Monday reported that more than 24,000 old age pension books have been given out in this exercise which will end tomorrow.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, so far thousands of pensioners have expressed their satisfaction with the distribution system.
Rudolph Singh of Alexander Village said that he is very happy about the new system that was implemented by the ministry while Bonny Paul of South Ruimveldt said that the system is very efficient and the officers were very friendly and helpful to him.
While the pension book distribution exercise comes to an end tomorrow, persons who were unable to collect their books by that time should make contact with their local Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) office or Regional Democratic Council office (RDC).
Pensioners can also contact the ministry on telephone number 223-6027 or 225-6202 for more information on the distribution exercise.
The government has recognized the role that senior citizens have played in the development of society and has been investing huge sums towards improving their lives, the release said.
There are approximately 42,000 pensioners receiving $7,500 monthly, the release added.
