A suspected burglar was shot by police while one of his two accomplices was held after a break and enter at the home of Trans Pacific Motor Spares Sales Manager Dinesh Singh.
Sean Brewster, 27, of West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme was shot to his right hip, after a confrontation with a police rank during which he allegedly attacked the officer with a claw-bar.
Stabroek News was told that around 2pm, the trio committed the act on Singh’s Block ‘Y’, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara home, in the absence of the occupants.
According to a police press release, ranks had responded to a report received and upon arrival, the perpetrators were seen exiting the premises. One of the two ranks on the scene managed to arrest one of the men, while Brewster and the third ran in different directions.
The other rank gave chase behind Brewster and was compelled to use force after the man attacked him with the claw-bar, police said.
Brewster was shot to his right hip and was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where his condition was listed as stable.
According to police, the perpetrators broke into a safe and carted away $400,000 and a quantity of jewellery.
Attempts made to contact Singh were unsuccessful.
