Three persons were injured after a boat hit a log and capsized in the Barama River, in Region 2 yesterday morning.
Sheldon Williams, 19, Levi Boyan, 41, and his daughter Lyn Boyan, 22, were later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) for medical attention.
According to Motley Boyan, his brother Levi travelled to his home at Friendship, Pomeroon the previous night before venturing to the interior to transport foodstuff and other items to their mining camp.
Reports reaching this newspaper have indicated that the boat capsized after a collision with a floating log, approximately five miles away from Barama White Creek around 9am.
Boyan said that eight persons were travelling in the boat but only the three were injured. He noted that the captain of a passing boat ensured that all the passengers were safely transported to land. At the GPH, Levi Boyan and Williams arrived at the hospital around 4pm, and they were immediately rushed into the Accident and Emergency Unit.
Boyan was said to be the most severe case as he suffered spinal injuries while Williams sustained injuries to his shoulder.
Lyn, meanwhile, was said to be travelling to Georgetown via boat as the plane did not have adequate space for her as well. Boyan explained that this course was settled on since her injuries were not severe.
