Dear Editor,
No one should fail to compliment the PPP for putting together an efficient well-funded propaganda machine, supported by a few persons holding office in the private sector and a few religious leaders. This is magnified by the dazzle of money and the chance to rub shoulders with the President.
We are in the midst of the silly election season, expressing human weaknesses. First, we had the Brazilian Governor mounting what was clearly a party political platform at Lethem, not to mention the rally itself, and the handing out of flood relief money in a party political location.
Second, there is the infamous statement by Juan Edghill that “If Jesus came to Guyana, He would vote for the PPP.” Others have dealt with this blasphemy, but so far, the good Bishop has not seized the opportunity to seek forgiveness.
Thirdly, as this season continues, the Salvation Army, a group our families and neighbourhood always held in great love and high esteem has a few million dollars doled out to them by the President. Now the Salvation Army leaves all those wonderful decent Guyanese to bestow honour on President Jagdeo in the midst of his cussing spree, and in the aftermath of his fake marriage, his magnificent home at Pradoville 2 and a monumental pension and benefits.
Then you have Courts having the Minister open its Christmas festivities, but there is no place on the programme for anyone from the municipality. Our private sector needs be careful how they interpret ‘neutrality.’
This is ‘silly’ season.
Yours faithfully,
Eric Moseley and
Rickford Lowe
