Sherwin Barrow and Michael Calvan were remanded to prison yesterday when they appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry charged with robbing two men at gunpoint of gold items valued in excess of $1m.
The particulars of the offence stated that on October 31 at East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, while armed with a gun the men robbed Lancelot Baptiste and Rory Rogers of gold items valued a total of $1,460,000.
The men were not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to them at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Barrow, 20, resides at Lot 8 East La Penitence and Calvan, 20, is a labourer of Lot 10 Pike Street, Kitty.
Prosecutor Lionel Harvey told the court that on the day in question at around 10:30 hours they were at the East Ruimveldt Secondary School when they were approached by the armed men on a bicycle. The men held them at gunpoint and demanded their valuables, discharged rounds and made good their escape.
A report was made at the police station and the two accused were later identified as the persons who had committed the unlawful act.
The prosecution after relating the facts to the court objected to bail while noting that Barrow has four pending matters.
The matter was adjourned until December 30.
