APNU voter education: At sometime around midday yesterday, APNU members set up tent by the Stabroek Market Square, close to the police mobile outpost to conduct their voter education campaign. They were approached by officers from the outpost and ordered to disperse from the area as they had no permission from the relevant authorities to conduct their campaign there. Mayor Hamilton Green, an APNU member, told this newspaper that he received a call about the order and he showed up at Stabroek Square to find his fellow members packing up. He said he told them to set up back tent, as he had received permission from the council for them to operate there, “and I’m staying here to see what will take place.” Stabroek News questioned an officer at the outpost and was told by that officer that “they do not have permission” He referred this newspaper to either Commander George Vyphuis or police spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker. When this newspaper contacted the latter, he stated that he was not aware of the situation and will have to look into it.
