(Trinidad Express) Police officers investigating the broadcast of an alleged rape on TV6’s CrimeWatch programme have secured a copy of the programme which will form part of their investigation.
Senior police officers told the Express that five officers assigned to the Port of Spain Criminal Investigations Department visited TV6, at Express House, Port of Spain, yesterday and spoke with the Caribbean Communication Network chief executive officer Shida Bolai.
Following the broadcast, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard instructed the police to investigate the airing of the video clip.
The video depicted the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl and was aired on October 25 at 6 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. and on October 26 at 6 p.m.
The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) on October 31 stated that the Authority had written to TV6 and “forwarded a copy of that letter to the Director of Public Prosecutions in view of the potential breach of the Sexual Offences Act”, by airing on television the video clip.
