Dear Editor,
Mr Robert Persaud said that he will shortly produce evidence to show that the AFC will form a coalition with APNU. I want to ask Mr Persaud if it is an offence for the two parties to form a coalition. He only needs to produce the evidence if it is an offence. Dr Ramsammy at Port Mourant said the AFC wants to join with APNU like the UF did with the PNC in 1964 to keep Dr Jagan from forming the government.
But how can the PPP complain about a coalition when since 2000 it has been in a coalition with the same UF (now TUF) that Dr Ramsammy said joined with the PNC in 1964? Is what’s good for the goose not good for the gander?
Mr Nadir when leader of TUF entered parliament in 2000 as a representative of TUF, but sat on the government side as a minister. In 2006, while a minister of the PPP-led government, he campaigned for TUF and again entered Parliament as TUF representative, but again sat with the government as a minister.
The ‘socialist’ PPP merged with the capitalist TUF, so what’s new? This chief capitalist was made Minister of Labour by the President. Why has the bauxite issue not been resolved? Why has no labour friendly law been enacted under Mr Nadir?
Now Mr Nadir, realizing that TUF cannot win a seat, has jumped into the PPP boat, but the Kaieteur News published a photo of him running up the steps of Unity House, and then he was in court fighting Ms Garrido-Lowe, TUF leader. If he is now with the PPP, how is he still fighting in TUF? He is straddling two boats and both will capsize. He on the PPP list and his daughter is the prime ministerial candidate on TUF list.
So, we don’t need evidence of an APNU-AFC coalition. The PPP didn’t seek the views of its members when it joined with TUF. Let the merger happen for the betterment of Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
George Blackman
