Organisers of the Linden Fund Trust (LFT) media forum are peeved at the no-show of the representative of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) despite assurances of their participation by the Linden campaign coordinator.
Several members of the Linden community and media representatives from the Stabroek News, Kaieteur News and Guyana Chronicle were present in the Linden Business Centre’s/Linden Enterprise Network conference room for the scheduled 11:30 am start but the organisers were forced to call off the forum at 1:30pm.
Expressing his disappointment, Trustee of the LFT Samuel Wright said that he was given all assurances that the party would have been present, which resulted in his organisation moving ahead with coordinating the activity for the yesterday. According to Wright, he spoke with the Linden Coordinator around 9 am yesterday, who said that APNU’s Aubrey Norton was going to be present and that he would have been further contacted by Norton later in the morning but this never materialised.
Wright said that his organisation was disappointed by the no-show of APNU because he felt that it was an opportunity to interact with members of the community. Based on what happened with the AFC, it was something the community liked and responded to in a very positive way. AFC leaders had turned up at that party’s scheduled engagement with the forum. “I did not understand why APNU would not maximise on that opportunity and then also it’s sad that given that opportunity the mechanics within that organisation couldn’t say well we can’t come or we couldn’t make it, but to just not to come at all didn’t go down very well,” he said.
He added that the LFT was expecting that the three major parties contesting this year’s elections would have grasped at the opportunity but only the AFC made good of it. Asked about the PPP/C, Wright said that they had written the party and made several attempts to get a response but all to no avail. He said that this was because elections are only a few days away and there is no possibility for any rescheduling or new arrangements.
