A West Ruimveldt woman was on Monday placed on $200,000 bail after she appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to answer the charge of larceny.
The allegation is that on November 15 at Georgetown, Angela Proctor stole a quantity of gold and silver jewellery valued $329,000 from Simone Kingston.
The woman pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
In presenting the facts, Prosecutor Lionel Harvey told the court that on the day in question the defendant was at the VC’s home styling the woman’s hair and at that time she had access to the VC’s bedroom.
Harvey said that after the accused was finished she left and the VC subsequently made checks and found that the items were missing.
The VC contacted the woman who later informed her that she took the items and sold them to a man at the Stabroek Market. The matter was reported and the defendant was charged. The prosecution had no objection to bail but asked that it be granted in a substantial sum
The matter was transferred to Court Two for report and fixture.
