The PNCR remembered fallen Member of Parliament Winston Shripal Murray as a good colleague and respected worker, as it marked the first anniversary of his death yesterday.
In a press release, the party said it hosted a soft ball cricket competition at Leguan in memory of Murray who was an admirer of the sport. Seven teams – both male and female – participated in the games.
Hundreds of supporters joined his widow Marva Murray, Chairman of the PNCR Bishwaishwar “Cammie” Ramsaroop, CCH, and former finance Minister and APNU executive Carl Greenidge at the games.
In her remarks, Murray reflected on the days “when Winston would put the country that he so loved first on his agenda.” An emotional Murray extended gratitude to Mark Walkes, PNCR Central Executive member, for arranging the memorial and to the donors for donating the trophies.
In his address, Ramsaroop recalled “days and nights when Winston fought in parliament for all of us Guyanese.” He also remembered him as a good colleague and respected worker. Greenidge also recalled that Murray loved cricket and loved to see young people play the game. “Winston Murray was a cricketer from the island,” he said. He then added that a person aspiring to be an honest politician and a man of integrity, should read about Murray or ask about him.
Murray, CCH, LLB, MP, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade and Industry died on November 22, 2010 after a brief illness.
