A Guyana representative beach football team reached the semi-finals of an invitational tournament in Trinidad and Tobago last week before bowing out of the competition.
According to a press release, the Red Jaguars team from Linden participated in the second Annual BagoSports Beach Football Invitational Tournament on November 19 and 20. The tournament, hosted by BagoSports
Limited, a multisport company designed to develop and promote sports in Tobago, was held at the Turtle Beach Heritage Park, Tobago.
The Red Jaguars won three group matches and lost one which saw them advancing to the knock out, quarter final stage.
The Red Jaguars mauled SW Touring Fred’s Team by 12 goals to 1 before mowing down Sagicor Football Team by 12 goals to 4.
They then whipped Black Rock FC 4 – 1 but lost to Stokley Vale 4-7 in their final group match.
In the quarter-finals, Red Jaguars defeated Sancho All Stars by 5 goals to 4 but lost again to Stokley Vale by 3 goals to 6 in the semi-final.
Ten teams participated in the competition which was won by Florida Beach Soccer FC who carted off the first prize of USD$10,000.00 after defeating Stokley Vale FC by 4 goals to 1.
Guyana’s Red Jaguars participation was made possible by a timely contribution from Banks DIH Ltd.
Alistair Johnson scored 12 goals for Guyana, whilst goalkeeper Harron Forrester was outstanding.
