The semi-finals of the Digicel/Guyana Netball Association (GNA) Senior League is expected to commence tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall court while the final is billed for Saturday.
The month-long tournament which was scheduled to culminate last weekend has been pushed back owing to administrative reasons, it was disclosed.
The remaining matches in the league include a semi-final showdown between netball powerhouse Emanie and Essequibo’s Fearless Flyers.
The winning team will challenge Doves in the final while the losing team will contest the third place play-off against the All Stars.
Tomorrow’s semi final match commences at 4.30pm with the unbeaten Emanie favoured to reach the final.
The team has won all six of their matches to date and will no doubt be gunning for another win come tomorrow.
Their opponents Fearless Flyers are yet to get off the ground having lost all six of their matches.
Nevertheless, despite their losing streak, with every successive match the persevering team has continued to display improved performances.
Coach of the team, Lawrence Kellman, said the tournament has been a learning experience for his team, given that the team is comprised
almost entirely of young novice players.
“They are a pretty young team; for most of them this was their first exposure. There was only one senior player among the girls who are playing, all the rest were newcomers but they have been working to develop themselves. So far they have lost all of their games, but throughout all of their games they have shown improvements. Unless they get exposure there will be no development.
At times even though the morale was down for some the players they would go out and play to their best and that is very commendable.” Kellman said.
Meanwhile, President of All Stars, Tracy O’Neil says her team has done its best, but acknowledged that the academic priorities of some of the key players lead to the team’s forfeiting of their semi-final clash against Doves.
“As far as I know the team has performed to its best. I’m sorry that they had to forfeit the game because most of the girls are in the CXC (CSEC) classes and they had lessons,” O’Neil related.
The third place play-off takes place on Saturday from 1pm while the final is set for 4pm.
