(Trinidad Express) Brazilian energy company Petrobras has agreed to partner with Trinidad and Tobago in energy initiatives, says Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
A 2008 memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Government and Petrobras will be revised for greater cooperation.
Persad-Bissessar was speaking at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s, yesterday during a joint press conference with Ronald Bodolay, president of Petrobras Mexico.
“I can see, and I saw here, a lot of improvement and people focused on targets to develop the country. So Brazil and Trinidad and Tobago have a MOU signed in 2008, we came here just to identify points and the issues that we can develop the market and improve the synergies in both countries,” said Bodolay.
Persad-Bissessar said meetings were held between Petrobras heads and officials of the Energy Ministry, Petrotrin, Lake Asphalt, NP and the National Gas Company.
“We are in discussions with Brazil Petrobras where it was agreed that we would explore the possibility of a joint venture market to market Trinidad asphalt in the regions where Petrobras refineries are located,” said Persad-Bissessar.
