Dear Editor,
I am an extremely proud Guyanese living in New York, newly licensed as an attorney, and am ready to serve the Guyanese and Caribbean community. I am always interested in the political developments of my country, especially in what happens during the upcoming elections on November 28.
As a proud member of the PPP for over three years now, my interest is in seeing Mr Ramotar elected as President of Guyana. I want him to continue fighting for the legacy of Dr Cheddi Berret Jagan and for that legacy to be maintained in terms of governance. That legacy includes a dedication to continue and maintain an honest and focused regime. My grandfather believed in those things as paramount to governing any country and I am more than convinced that Mr Ramotar will uphold Jagan’s will and his legacy.
I have no doubt that my grandfather, the father of our nation and my grandmother, the matron of politics in Guyana, would have been proud that a son of the soil and a defender of all they left behind, will become the seventh president of our beautiful nation. I have met Donald Ramotar on more than one occasion and I was very pleased to see a man of simplicity, kindness and an open mind; I truly believe Mr Romotar will make a humble, intelligent president and work for the youths of Guyana who deserve everything beautiful that this world has to offer.
When I have had the opportunity to be around and speak with Mr Romotar I have seen glimpses of what my grandfather stood for; most importantly I see a glimpse of true hope. I have no doubt that Mr Ramotar will listen to our concerns and do many things to help us achieve our dreams. He is a humble man, concerned for the poor and middle classes and a dedicated worker striving constantly for Guyana’s betterment. It is the poor people of Guyana who deserve better, who deserve a president that will fight for them till the end, just as my grandfather did, and I see this in Mr Ramotar. I see him as the type of man who will be concerned with the welfare of Guyana until his very last breath, just like my hero, my grandfather.
When you measure Mr. Ramotar against his political opponents one sees no contest, analyzed from any angle; this is a man with much greater political experience, his character is sincere, down-to-earth and kind. I have seen many videos of the political campaign and I have seen Mr Ramotar as a man who can deliver a hard-hitting speech while interacting with the crowd in a very personal way and making them laugh and cheer him on. It is my humble opinion that this is a man who will generate good will for our country all over the troubled world; he will make Guyana a beacon of democracy, economic development and positive change for all our people, regardless of race, religion or creed.
The people of Guyana should vote for Mr Ramotar as President of Guyana.
Yours faithfully,
Vrinda Jagan
