The Banks DIH sponsored Powerade Under 13 league organized by the Georgetown Football Association will kick off today with a double header at Thirst Park.
The first match will pit Santos against the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) to be followed by Fruta Conquerors engaging Sunburst Camptown in the battle of the juices.
Kick off time is 9am.
Each match will be of 60 minutes duration and games will only be contested on Saturdays.
Kwabina Griffith, the GFA’s Technical and Tactical Development officer, in an interview with Stabroek Sport earlier this week said that seven teams have registered for the tournament.
The registration process ended yesterday.
Seventeen clubs are affiliated to the Georgetown Football Association, however at last Saturday’s launch, Griffith said that they GFA was aware that not all 17 clubs had active under 13 teams.
Also it is from this tournament that a number of players will be selected for a football academy. The one year academy will be conducted under the stewardship of head coach Jimmy McLean.
The winning team will cart off $100,000 worth of equipment along with trophies. Second to fourth place finishers will each leave with equipment worth $75,000, $50,000 and $25,000 respectively. Prizes will be awarded to the most valuable player and the most goal scorer.
No monetary prizes will be awarded to the players.
