Junior hockey players of the Hikers Hockey Club’s Western Union programme departed Friday for Trinidad and Tobago where they will compete in the Magnolias International Indoor tournament.
The Junior Hikers will be competing in the male under-21 category of the tournament, while two girls from the club’s junior programme will be competing in the tournament as guest players of T&T clubs. It is not yet known which clubs they will represent.
However, team manager Michael Harding indicated that he has high expectations of the team, especially since most of the players have benefited from similar tours over the past two years. He also pointed out that the players have improved significantly from last year.
According to Harding, the touring team is well balanced with eight players recruited from the club’s annual summer camps. The other six players are from the club’s ongoing school programme at St. Stanislaus College.
