KINGSTOWN, St Vincent, CMC – Left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul and pacer Shannon Gabriel grabbed wickets at crucial stages to fire West Indies A to a comfortable 34-run win over Bangladesh A in the second One-Day game here yesterday.
Captain Permaul claimed three for 28 and Gabriel, three for 31, as Bangladesh A crashed to 164 all out off 41.4 overs in pursuit of a revised target of 198 off 45 overs after rain intervened in the affair at the Arnos Vale Sports Complex.
Earlier, West Indies A rallied to 204 for nine off their 50 overs after being sent in, with all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite top scoring with 53 and Leon Johnson getting 43.
Off-spinner Shohag Gazi (2-27), medium pacer Robiul Islam 2-32, left-arm spinner Suhrawadi Shuvo (2-42) and fast bowler Kamrul Islam (2-61) all finished with two wickets apiece.
With the victory, West Indies A took a winning 2-0 lead in the series, ahead of the final game at the same venue tomorrow.
West Indies found themselves in a muddle at 56 for five in the 20th over after devastating bursts from Gazi and Robiul.
Brathwaite and Johnson then combined in a face-saving 82-run, sixth wicket stand, to pull the Windies around.
The right-handed Brathwaite faced 92 balls and hit one four while Johnson batted 90 balls and struck two fours.
Jason Holder then stroked a breezy 34 off 28 balls with two fours and two sixes, to rally the lower order.
When the visitors batted, Gabriel took care of openers Junaid Siddique (1) and captain Jahurul Islam (9), before Holder claimed Mithun Ali for 15 in the 10th over, to stun Bangladesh at 35 for three.
