The Guyana Police Force yesterday said that it is unlawful to open liquor shops on Elections Day and to supply alcohol to persons between the opening and the closing of poll.
In a release issued yesterday, the police said the general public needed to be reminded that under the Representation of the People Act Chapter 1:03 of the Laws of Guyana, “all premises to which spirit shop licenses and off licenses have been issued under the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act shall be closed and kept closed on Election Day, Monday November 28, 2011.”
No intoxicating liquor is to be sold or given away at any such premises at any time between the opening and closing of poll on that day, the release.
In addition to this, the police said that “no intoxicating liquor is to be supplied to any person between the opening and the closing of poll on Election Day at any premises to which a licence under the Registration of Clubs Act has been issued.
