Dear Editor,
The PPP has robbed Guyana of its middle class and its future. It is widely believed that the middle class typically looks ahead to the future, because that’s where their fortune lies. The poor live in the moment, scraping to get by, assuming that the future will be no better than the present. The wealthy look to the past for their birthright to justify their entitlements.
Since the middle class has disappeared, we’ve started living like an underclass nation. We are spending whatever little we have on aggrandizement and exhibitionism, while giving our children an inferior education, failing to plan, and in essence planning to fail.
The PPP and PNC have spent 28 + 19 years systematically stealing from us our confidence in each other. They have also stolen our belief in the common good of the country, and our faith in the collective future of Guyana. But of all the things they’ve looted from us, the middle class is the most important one to take back for ourselves.
With the vision of the AFC, we can rebuild our country’s social, moral, and cultural foundation that empowers all Guyanese to work towards their own collective interest. Then we will experience the reconstruction of a new physical infrastructure that will include everyone and benefit all — and our future will once again be our own.
Yours faithfully,
C Singh
