The Alliance For Change today said that a problem where 135 of its agents in Region Five had been locked out of polling stations has been cleared up.
Reports say that the elections official who had locked out the agents had been seeking to ensure that the names of the agents had been submitted by the AFC.
Earlier this morning, the AFC said that all 135 of the party’s Polling Agents were locked out of the polling stations in Region Five by a Guyana Elections Commission’s Regional Returning Officer as the polls opened this morning.
A release from the AFC had said that Presidential Candidate Khemraj Ramjattan contacted GECOM Chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally on this matter. The AFC said that Dr. Surujbally had since instructed that the party’s Polling Agents be accepted into the polling stations.
In 2006 agents for several parties were initially locked out of polling stations until complaints were made to GECOM.
