The RUSAL-owned Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc today said it had made buses available to transport its workers to polling stations.
The statement came in the wake of complaints by the Alliance For Change that the workers weren’t being let off early enough to get to their stations on time and a subsequent story in the Kaieteur News.
In a statement BCGI said that yesterday the first group of 64 workers left the BCGI campus to vote.
Today at 6.00am and 8.00am another five buses left Aroaima for Linden carrying more than 70 employees to vote. After exercising their franchise they were to be transported back to Aroaima from 7.00pm.
Buses are also programmed to transport the first group of voters out of Linden, on November the 29th from 1.00pm.
These employees will be paid in accordance with current labour legislation, the statement said.
BCGI has had tense relations with labour unions on a series of issues.
