Guyana Plastic Recyclers at Friendship on the East Bank of Demerara is into grinding plastic bottles and shipping the chips to China and while this venture could bring about a cleaner environment residents are finding the venture a bit too noisy.
However, businessman Netram (only name given) who is spearheading this enterprise feels that it is in keeping with the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDs) and he does not intend to cause any nuisance in the community. He declined to provide further information on his venture.
The residents told Stabroek News that they are unable to go about their daily chores in a comfortable manner because of the noise from the plastic recycling business.
They said that they complained to Netram and he acted promptly by moving the machine a little farther away but the noise level is still affecting them.
One resident suggested to Netram that he should block around the machine with zinc and he said that the zinc sheets had already been purchased to do that but it will take some time. Contrary to what residents are saying, the businessman said that the machine can only run for a maximum of four hours per day.
