According to a GRC press release, during October/November the non-government organization gave assistance to Mervyn Butts (family of one) of John and Sheriff Streets; Jennifer Springer (family of four) of Lot 114 Side Line Dam, Sisters Village; Cheryl Samaroo (family of three) of Lot 28 Phase 2 Good Hope, East Coast Demerara; Sukdeo Lallchand (family of four) Lot 60 Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara, Junior Hackett (family of five) of Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown; and Lugard King (family of four) of Lot 114 Sisters Village, West Coast Demerara.
Meanwhile, the GRC in a public appeal stated that it cannot render such assistance single-handedly and the organization needs help from members of the public.
“We are tremendously thankful to the members of the public – corporate and private citizens – who all through their goodwill have enhanced the provision of ‘care packages’ to persons affected by disasters,” the GRC said.
For this year to date, the GRC has assisted 125 families who were affected by disasters and persons in difficult circumstances, the release said.
Persons are invited to call GRC on 225-3081 should they wish to donate cash or kind.
