PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – West Indies A manager Colin Borde has reiterated the value of the High Performance Centre, noting it played a key role in the recently concluded A series against Bangladesh.
He said the institution, based at the UWI Cave Hill Campus in Barbados, was helping players add a new dimension to their game.
“Young players on both sides were hungry for success and prove their worth,” Borde said.
“What I noticed was that they played intelligent cricket and with most of them coming through the HPC programme, it is clear that this is really making a difference.”
West Indies A, led by left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul, beat Bangladesh A 1-0 in the two-Test series before also sealing the three-match one-day series 2-0. The final game was washed out without a ball bowled.
Borde said during the series, the players had showed maturity under pressure and this augured well for the future.
“This was pleasing and it tells me that our cricket is headed in the right direction,” he said. “The players were willing to work hard and to do what was required for success. They have places to go, with some of them up and coming and some doing the remedial work in an effort to get back into the international scene.” The next assignment for West Indies A will be in May next year when they face a strong India A side.
