Guyana’s Under-17 Lady Jags football team was beaten 8-0 by Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Princesses in the first game of the second round of the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying competition yesterday.
The match was played at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Kingston, Jamaica.
The girls from the Twin Island Republic scored four goals in each half in winning the opening encounter.
Hosts Jamaica and The Bahamas were down to clash in the feature clash yesterday.
The lady Jags will face the Jamaicans tomorrow at the same venue in their second group match with the top three sides from this round joining host Guatemala along with Canada, Mexico, the United States and either Costa Rica or Panama in Guatemala City for the finals May 2-13, 2012.
The other Central American qualifier will come from Costa Rica and Panama, which won their home-and-away series against El Salvador and Nicaragua, 8-1 and 2-0 respectively on Sunday. The Under-17 CONCACAF finalists and third-place match winner will qualify for the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan.
