Defending champion Taffin Khan remains unbeaten in his quest to defend his national title following last weekend’s matches of the Geddes Grant/Seven Seas 2011 National senior chess championships being played at the Ocean Spray Hotel in Kitty.
According to a press release, with six games left to be played in the tournament, the former junior champion, who was undefeated in his 2008 junior campaign, might look to repeat that dominance in the senior category.
To date none of Khan’s opponents have been able to record a single draw against the defending champion.
The points standings for the senior players after eight of 14 matches played are Taffin Khan eight points, Maria Thomas six, Frankie Farley five and a half and Glenford Corlette three points each.
The scores for the four junior players are Anthony Drayton four and a half points, Saeed Ali three, Rashad Hussain one and a half and Suhai Feng half a point.
Feng and Hussain have missed a number of matches
Of the championships which is reflected in
their scores, the release noted.
The championships will continue this Saturday at the same venue where another four rounds are expected to be played.
