The Region Three administration says late former Vice Chairman Manpersaud will be cremated on Tuesday at Kaashi Dhaam, Ruimzeight.
In a press release, Information Officer Jaidev Dudhnath said 70-year-old died on Tuesday at his residence following a prolonged period of illness.
Manpersaud was a long-serving member of the PPP/C and one of the longest serving regional councillors.
He assumed the vice chairman post in 2006, after the General and Regional Elections.
He also worked at the Sea Defence Board, Central Board of Health and the Board of Guardian-lower West Coast Demerara and Elderly-Ministry of Human Services.
Manpersaud leaves to mourn his wife, three daughters and other relatives.
