Dear Editor,
Recently, I went on record saying that I would not be voting. However, a couple of days after that I had a change of mind and did cast my vote for the first time. I did so because I saw a very dear friend of mine who needed my help and my heart guided me at the last minute. I also sought guidance from some personal friends and associates. My vote went to APNU and the AFC – one for the regional and the other for the general election.
Having said that, I am a great fan of Chinese sage, Confucius (551-478 bc), and I share the following: “Among mortals, who is faultless?
The real fault is to have faults and not try to amend them.“ I appeal to all for compassion and to give themselves some time to forgive the PPP/C for the behaviour and approach they took during the just concluded 2011 general elections. The same applies to the opposition who may have done the same in return. I feel so sorry for the position that President Donald Ramotar is currently in along with the party he represents. The supporters of the PPP/C have absolutely nothing to fear with the power that the opposition possesses, because as I see it, it will be a new era from which we all will benefit.
President Ramotar is in a position to be the person to make a difference, and he has got to put aside all differences and reach out to the opposition with an olive branch. At the same time, he has got to make some serious decisions in relation to the persons who make up his cabinet. In the end, a book could be published and become a best seller, titled, ‘The man who changed the politics of Guyana.‘ I would be heartbroken should the title read, ‘Donald ducked out.‘
Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
