Proprietor of Mohammed’s Enterprise, Nazar Mohamed, has presented trophies in addition to a one million dollar cheque to give a total sponsorship package of $1.5M for the Kashif and Shanghai 22nd annual football tournament.
The presentation took place Wednesday morning at a simple ceremony at the headquarters of Mohammed’s Enterprise on Lombard Street, and will facilitate the prize for the second place team.
The sponsorship package was also offered in part by the City Mall, Camp and Regent Streets, Georgetown.
Mohamed said that it has been a continuing pleasure to be associated with the Kashif and Shanghai tournament and promised that his sponsorship of the tournament which started in 1991 would continue as long as the yearly extravaganza lasts.
Mohamed said further that in being a part of the competition all these years he is keen to support local sports and especially folks from the Linden fraternity, who have supported his business tremendously.
Meanwhile, Kashif Mohamed thanked the sponsor for his 21 years of contributions. He said Mohamed’s Enterprise is the second longest sponsor of the tournament, following Banks DIH, which has been there for 22 years, the duration of the tournament so far.
The tournament which will run from December 10 to January 1 will see 20 teams, including two from overseas, battling for the top prize of one pound of gold valued at $4 million, while the runner-up team will receive $1,000,000.
The third and fourth place finishers will pocket
$500,000 and $300,000 respectively, while the Most Valuable Player will receive a motor-cycle.
The 20 competing teams are Caribbean United, Caledonia AIA, Pele, Western Tigers, Topp XX, Milerock, Netrockers, Amelia’s Ward United, Winners Connection, BV/ Triumph, Victoria Kings, Buxton Stars, Den Amstel, Seawall United, New Amsterdam United, Rosignol United, Mill Ballers, Timehri Panthers, Kuru Kururu Warriors, and Grove Hi- Tec.
