According to a press release, the EAB is awaiting release of Statement of Polls from the Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom), which it was unable to acquire on election night. It continued that with the ull set of observer reports and Statements of Poll, the EAB would be in a position to complete its examination and assessment of the 2011 polling exercise. “The EAB has sent the list of outstanding Statements of Poll to Gecom and hopes that it would be able to get the requested copies when Gecom’s office opens on Monday December 5, 2011,” the release said. It said too that the EAB expects that, with the full completion of the Statements of Poll in hand, it would be in a position to release a preliminary assessment of the polling component of the 2011 election by the end of next week.
The EAB is a local observer group comprising citizens of all ethnic, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds, which has the most comprehensive coverage of the polling process; having placed observers in all ten regions of Guyana. The release said this task was a complex logistical exercise undertaken on a relatively small budget with volunteer support. “Most observer reports have been received and a few from outlying regions are expected shortly,” it said.
The EAB thanked all of its volunteers, including the many young people who gave tireless hours at the office and remote stations in the past weeks to assist with planning, analysis, and manning of hotlines. Gratitude was further expressed to the observers, their supervisors, and coordinators for their bravery and hard work.
The EAB also thanked the public for its cooperation with EAB and appealed to all citizens to be guided by reason.
