Realtor evicted from home

According to an upset Reid, she left home around 10 yesterday morning and while out she received a call stating that some people were in the house throwing out everything. The woman explained that she returned home to find that the door had been broken open and some men were busy fetching out her furniture and other belongings, placing them on the street corner. She explained too that the movers’ action was prompted by an alleged court order by a man claiming to be the rightful owner of the place.

The man, Ancil Darnley, explained that he went to London, leaving the property in the care of the Reids (Joy and her ex-husband Toney of Toney Reid’s Auto Spares on Duncan Street) via a power of attorney. He said his stay in London lengthened and the couple used the same power of attorney to turn the property fully into their possession. He said when he returned recently to take back possession of his property, he was forced to take the matter to court as the Reids challenged his ownership. The man went on to say that the court ruled in his favour and the Reids were given up to March last year to vacate the premises.

Darnley said they then asked for an extension of the time, which was rejected by the court but still they remained in the house. Yesterday, the man decided to take matters into his own hands and so, with two court marshals, some police officers and the moving men, he went to the house and began the eviction.

When Reid arrived at the house, he told her that there had been a court order for her eviction. Reid in turn told this newspaper that no papers were served to her. Reid’s ex-husband was not in sight when this newspaper arrived on the scene and efforts made to garner a comment from the court marshals proved futile.
