Guyanese Ron Smith (Welterweight elite) and Delon Charles (Bantamweight novice) each copped a gold medal while Richard Williamson (Flyweight elite) settled for silver at the inaugural Ronald Wilson Memorial tournament held at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Up to press time last night, the performances of the three other pugilists that made the trip Imran ‘Magic’ Khan (Bantamweight elite), Laured Stewart (Welterweight novice) and the lone female Rowena David (Featherweight) were unknown, however their results will be published in a subsequent article.
Stewart won his preliminary bout on Thursday night while David won her preliminary contest Friday night; Khan was not scheduled to compete until last night.
The three day tournament that boxed off on Thursday and concluded last night attracted 10 other Caribbean nations, including host Barbados. The team is expected to return to Guyana today.
