The Potoraro Island located in the Essequibo River just about one mile above the Supenaam River is up for rental by its owner Nandkishore Rampersaud.
Rampersaud has been in possession of the island since 1964 and had rented it to provision farmers who cultivated it for a number of years but abandoned it approximately three years now.
He said that the 138 acres island will be renting for $50,000 per acre on a yearly basis but if anyone is interested in making it a resort the price is negotiable since they will have to make their own accommodation arrangements on the island.
When asked if someone had offered to buy his island, the 72-year old man said he made it clear that he has no intentions of selling his property but it will be there for the purpose of renting.
