An all-round team effort by Third Class helped them to pull off a one wicket victory over Ace Warriors yesterday in their Noble House Seafood second division cricket match at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) Sports Complex ground.
It was a fitting end to a thrilling encounter between the two teams who were engaged in a back and forth battle for supremacy even after Third Class gained first innings points.
Ace Warriors, batting first, were bowled out for a measly 73 in 23.4 overs with Abzal Gafoor making the top score of 36.
Ricky Seeambar and John Payton were the principal wicket takers with Seeambar capturing three wickets for 11 runs off four overs while Payton took two wickets for 18 runs off 3.4 overs.
Third Class in reply, declared their first innings on
128-9 with Alvin Castello top scoring with 45.
He received support from Chandrika Shivpersaud and Lenny Pancham with scores of 33 and 32 respectively while Mortland Ward picked up four wickets for 25 runs off six overs for Ace Warriors.
Ace Warriors, batting a second time and facing a deficit of 55 runs were dismissed for 140 leaving Third Class to get a mere 85 runs for an outright win.
They were made to fight by the Ace Warriors’ Gafoor who ran through the Third Class batting line up picking up five wickets for 32 runs off 8.1 overs.
However, Trevor Hossein’s knock of 20 saw Third Class reach 89 for nine to eke out the narrow win. (Treiston Joseph)
