Inspired bowling by Damien Vantull led the University of Guyana (UG) to first inning points over Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) in the Noble House Seafood second division competition yesterday at the GYO ground, Woolford Avenue.
Batting first, GYO were dismissed for 217 off 55 overs.
Kumar Singh led the way with a classy half century.
His innings of 66, along with 46 from Shivanand Roopnarine and 19 from Derrick Rouley, were mainly responsible for the huge total.
Left-arm spinner Vantull picked up five wickets for 54 runs of 23 overs while Dennis Heywood and Darnell Douglas supported with two wickets a piece.
In reply, UG reached a mammoth total of 376 for nine declared.
Clevon Hyman was in brilliant form smashing the ball to all parts of the ground.
His innings of 160 contained 22 fours and two sixes while Godfrey Thakurdin chipped in with 59.
Roopnarine was the pick of GYO’s bowlers with three wickets for 35 runs off nine overs.
In their second innings, GYO batted out the rest of the day ending on 197 for nine off 54 overs with Abdul Rahim and Pavrndralall Persaud scoring 59 runs each.
Vantull’s bowling again proved troublesome for the GYO batsmen as he picked up six wickets for 66 runs off 24 overs while his partner Dwayne Dodson took two wickets for 37 runs off nine overs.
