Dillon McLeod, called ‘Black Boy’, was yesterday sentenced to eight years imprisonment after he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell to answer the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The man, however, would only spend four years behind bars because the sentences will run concurrently.
He is also facing 12 counts of robbery under arms.
According to the particulars of the firearm and ammo charges, on November 30 at Wismar the 21-year-old accused had a .32 pistol along with 11 live matching rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence in force at the time.
The man who resides at Victory Valley, Linden, pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to the facts presented to the court, on the day in question at about 12:00 hrs, acting on information, police went to Canvas City, Linden, where they conducted a search on the defendant and the weapon was discovered. The man was questioned and later admitted that the weapon belonged to him, adding that he had purchased it from a friend for $60,000.
The magistrate stressed the seriousness of the offence. When asked by the court if he had anything to say the man said “no”. In handing down the sentence both the mitigating and aggravating circumstances were taken into consideration.
He was remanded to prison on the other charges and will appear at the Christiansburg Magistrates’ Court today.
