The Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation on Monday hosted its final exposition for the year, showcasing the work of women who participated in arts and craft training courses.
About 50 women participated in 19 different arts courses, the Institute said in a press release. From May to December, the women were trained at the Venezuelan Institute through collaboration with the Women with Power Organisation, which was established there over three years ago.
An exhibition and sale is hosted after each course. Monday’s exhibition, the eighth since 2009, was hosted under the theme ‘Hands of Revolutionary Women.’
At the exhibition, Venezuelan Ambassador Dario Morandy urged the graduates to use their skills for the betterment of their families and to join social groups to boost their productivity.
Representative of the National Commission on Disability Beverly Pile said she was grateful to the IVCC for inviting persons with disabilities to participate in the course. She said she was amazed by the work done by the students and in some cases persons were shocked at their own abilities.
The Women with Power Organisation has since established branches to train more women in Mon Repos, Tuschen, Kuru Kururu and other places, the release said. The Organisation said it was satisfied with the level of participation at the IVCC and it has trained over 2,000 women since 2009. Currently more than 600 women are participating in the programme while registration for the next term starts mid-January. The release said guests also included the wife of the Venezuelan Ambassador Corina Morandy, Alina Fernandez, wife of Cuba’s Ambassador to Guyana and Nurlene Bess, president of the Ruimveldt Parent Support Group.
The IVCC is hosting its graduation ceremony for the participants at the Theatre Guild tomorrow.
