The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has handed over electronic copies of the Statements of Poll to the contesting political parties after coming to an agreement on Tuesday to do so at the agitation of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).
A release from GECOM yesterday confirmed that the SOPs, the subject of a wave of APNU demonstrations since the release of elections results on December 1, 2011, had been dispatched to the four political parties contesting the elections of November 28.
The release stated, “In pursuance of the directive given at the 349th Statutory Meeting of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) which was held on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, GECOM has dispatched to the four Political Parties which contested the 2011 General and Regional Elections (i) the documented compilation of the results delineated on each of the relevant SoPs by District, and (ii) a DVD ROM containing all of the SoPs for the entire 2076 Polling Stations across Guyana in PDF.”
Speaking to the Stabroek News, prime ministerial candidate of APNU Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine confirmed that the party had received a large Manila envelope with some printed material in addition to the DVD. He said that the party would have been commencing work on the reconciliation.
Meanwhile the Alliance For Change’s (AFC) presidential candidate Khemraj Ramjattan said that the AFC will be proceeding with the reconciliation, having received the SOP and other accoutrements from GECOM yesterday.
