President Donald Ramotar on Wednesday met with executive members of The United Force (TUF), as he continued his engagement with opposition parties.
TUF executive member Peter Persaud said that representatives from his party met with the President and government officials Gail Teixeira and Dr Roger Luncheon and discussed issues relating to development in Guyana.
In terms of promoting development, Persaud said the two groups spoke about how the hung parliament would work. TUF, Persaud said, would like all the parties to work together for the country. At the recent general elections, TUF failed to attract enough votes to win a seat in parliament for the first time in its history.
Persaud said that in a brief engagement with the new Head of State, he indicated that TUF is a peaceful party that wanted a country that is free from violence. Persaud, who was his party’s presidential candidate at the elections, indicated to Ramotar that he had accepted the results and urged that the government does its part in maintaining peace.
Ramotar had previously met with representatives from A Partnership for National Unity and the Alliance For Change (AFC), where several matters were raised including the selection of the Speaker for the National Assembly.
