The curtain will come down today on the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA)organized nationwide softball tournament at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Some three finals will be contested when play commences this morning at 9am.
In the over-40 final, Regal Seniors, winners of the Guyana Softball Masters Cup tournament, will oppose Floodlights.
Regal Seniors team will include players such as Troy Kippins, Lance Adams, Jagga Bhoj, Anil Hardyal and Amarnauth Boodhoo while the Floodlights team, led by Dharam Persaud, will also include players the likes of Wayne Jones, Ricky Deonarine, Richard Persaud, Lalta Gainda and Imtiaz Mohamed.
The second final, the male Open category, will be a straight fight between Herstelling and Regal.
Both teams also have some of the country’s top softball players, such as Richard Latiff, Samuel Kingston, Saheed Gittins, Raymond Harper, Yunos Mohamed, Vivian Bissoon, Dennis Muir and
Shafeek Ishmail.
The third final will be a “War of the Roses” between Mike’s Wellwoman and Trophy Stall Angels. Both teams have some national cricketers in Joan Vansertima, June Ogle, Abeina Parker, Onika Wallerson, Kavita Yadram, Akaza Thompson, Latoya Smith, etc.
All winners will receive trophies and $75,000.00 while the runners-up will receive trophies and $25,000.00.
The Player of the Match and the Series will each receive a trophy and $10,000.00.
This tournament, which commenced on August 28, is sponsored exclusively by bakery giant Bakewell.
