The Gecom complex at Coldingen, East Coast Demerara

Ballot boxes intact, says Gecom

The Guyana Elections Commission (Gecom) yesterday declared that the integrity of the ballot boxes has not been compromised, though their metal containers at its complex at Coldingen, on the East Coast Demerara were breached.

The building housing the four stores that was the target of the attempted arson and robbery. Business was back to normal yesterday.

Cops probing arson attempt, burglary at Hinckson building

The police are investigating an arson attempt aimed at a building on Cummings Street belonging to former army officer Oliver Hinckson, which houses four businesses, after a discovery was made on Sunday night of a five-gallon bottle of gasoline, some of which had been poured on two carpets, following a break and entry and robbery.

In a story titled ‘Fracas over election protest lands two in court’ published in last Wednesday’s edition, it was inadvertently stated that Dawn Moore and Tie Sheng Ye had been bonded to keep the peace when in fact the court had only handed down the sentence to Tie Sheng Ye.
