Bishop Juan Edghill has officially resigned from the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC).
His letter dated December 9, was addressed to Yvonne Langevine, the Chief Executive Officer of the (ERC). Edghill resigned as a commissioner representing the Christian constituency and as chairman of the ERC. In his letter, he also indicated that he would be available to hand over all documents and property that are in his possession that belongs to the ERC.
Edghill’s resignation was expected as he had mounted the PPP/C platform during the recent elections campaign and has now been named as the minister within the Ministry of Finance.
He has become a divisive and controversial political figure and the main opposition PNCR had opposed his continuing as the Chairman of the ERC and had not cooperated with the body as a result.
