A man was yesterday placed before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer charges of simple larceny and fraudulent conversion.
The allegation is that on December 12 at Georgetown the accused, Alex Khan stole two speakers along with other items valued $147,000, belonging to Cecil Moore.
It is further alleged that between October 1 and 31 at Kitty, the defendant was entrusted with the sum of $170,000 to purchase building materials but he converted the money to his own use and benefit.
The man pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him.
In the simple larceny matter, prosecutor Neville Jeffers said that on the day the VC went to a birthday party to play music. After the party ended the VC was assisted by the accused who packed up the music set to return it to the owner. The prosecution further said that the VC returned later during the day to his premises when he discovered that the music set was missing. As a result the matter was reported and an investigation was launched. Subsequently, the prosecutor added, the music set was found under the accused’s bed and during his arrest he admitted the offence.
The court was told that the article is lodged at the East La Penitence Police Station.
In relation to the fraudulent conversion charge, the prosecutor related that the VC and the accused are known to each other because the defendant is doing construction work on the VC’s house. During October the VC gave the accused $170,000 to purchase building materials but he never did.
After stating the facts the prosecution raised no objection to bail and the man was placed on $130,000 bail.
The matter will be called again on January 25.
