A 41-year-old man who allegedly snatched a gold chain worth $80,000 from a woman was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer the charge of larceny from the person.
According to the particulars of the charge, on December 12 at Georgetown the accused Charles Holder stole one gold chain from the person of Cecile Jordan. Holder who resides at Lot 215 South Vryheids Lust pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
In presenting the police facts to the court, Prosecutor Lionel Harvey said that on the day in question the VC was walking along Water Street when she was confronted by the accused who snatched the gold chain and ran away into the new vendors mall. Harvey related that the woman raised an alarm and vendors who were in the area gave chase and the alleged chain snatcher was apprehended and handed over to the police.
