(Barbados Nation) Political scientist Peter Wickham says the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) faces a “political crisis” and could very well be considered a party in denial.
He was responding to a series of public denials by Government ministers over the past two days, following publication by THE NATION of the contents of a letter in which they called for an “urgent meeting” with Prime Minister Freundel Stuart to discuss matters of leadership.
“In all of this, it has been interesting that the PM has himself been demonstrating that there is a problem since all of this is swirling around and he is absent from the scene on business which we know little about and the importance of which, I believe, must pale next to this political crisis which his Government now faces,” Wickham said.
“The fact that the PM’s definitive voice, and moreover, his actions are yet to be heard on this issue tells us more than anything else that the DLP is facing a crisis, the extent of which that party is yet to realize.”
Wickham warned Government MPs that they had more “fundamental matters” to address than the DAILY NATION’s reporting.
