A 49-year-old father of eight who allegedly had 37.4 grams of cannabis along with 4.3 grams of cocaine in his possession was yesterday remanded to prison at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court.
According to the particulars of the charges, on Monday the accused Lyndon Simmon, of Lot 27 Pilot Street, New Amsterdam, had 37.4 grams of cannabis in his possession. It is further alleged that on the same day the man had 4.3 grams of cocaine.
Simmon, who told the court that he is a businessman, pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to him by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.
In narrating the police’s case to the court, Prosecutor Neville Jeffers said that on the day in question, police carried out a search on the person of the defendant and as a result seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis along with the suspected cocaine were discovered in a plastic bag hidden in the man’s crotch.
Neville said that the man was told of the allegation and the substances were weighed in his presence and he was later charged. After stating the facts the prosecutor objected to bail, saying that no special circumstance was presented to the court. The matter will be called again today.
