ST. JOHNS, Antigua, (Reuters) – Two men convicted of killing a Welsh couple honeymooning on the Caribbean island of Antigua were sentenced today to three consecutive life sentences in prison.
The newlyweds, Ben and Catherine Mullany, were shot execution-style three years ago in a botched robbery attempt at a luxury beachfront cottage.
The sentencing of the two men found guilty in the killings was repeatedly delayed before a judge made the surprise sentencing announcement today.
The men, Kaniel Martin, 23, and Avie Howell, 22, were also found guilty of killing a shop owner days after murdering the couple.
The men are also expected to stand trial in the coming months as suspects in two other 2008 killings.
